Adamstown – Lucan Family Cycle Day

Sat 19th June 2010

2pm to 6pm

South Dublin County Council in conjunction with Adamstown Community Partnership hosted the Adamstown-Lucan Family Cycle Day, in Adamstown, on Saturday last, 19th June.

The event was organised by South Dublin County Council’s Smarter Travel Adamstown team and is one of a series of events run throughout South Dublin County during National Bike Week 2010.

The purpose of the day was to promote cycling and cycle safety. Activities focused around a series of obstacle courses under the guidance and instruction of Barbara and Noel Connolly of Cycling Safety School. Prominent cyclists Roisin Kennedy and Brendan Whelan of the Adamstown Cycling Club were on hand to cheer on the cyclists.  Stagg Cycles Lucan, the local bike shop, provided endless fun with their range of novelty bikes, as well as providing free bicycle checks and advice on bike maintenance.  South Dublin County Council’s Travel Team provided information about new cycle routes in the area, including the newly opened Grand Canal Way Green Route. The day concluded in a group cycle around Adamstown, led by Cycling Safety School and Community Garda Jim Reidy.

The weather couldn’t have been more favourable and over 250 people turned out throughout the afternoon to take part in the day’s activities.

The family cycle day in Adamstown was a fantastic success and great fun for all of the adults and children who took part.
