GREEN FLAG RAISING CEREMONY – Thursday 10th June 2010

11am

St. Maelruan’s Junior National School celebrated the achievement of their third Green Flag for Water on Thursday 10th June. Mayor of South Dublin County, Councillor Mick Duff was on hand to help the Green School raise their flag for all to see.

‘It is great to see all the hard work you are doing at this school. Not only are you continuing to keep your school litter free but you are also recycling more than ever and conserving energy….and on top of all that you are conserving water too! ‘

Mayor Duff congratulated all the staff and the young pupils giving particular mention to Josephine McGrath for coordinating the Green Schools Programme with great support from the school’s Principal Mairead Ryan.

‘I was really impressed to hear about all your water saving actions and activities such as:

·         Click & Drip Teams that check for lights left on, open windows and dripping taps

  • The lovely Art Exhibition on water held earlier in the year
  • The great fun you had on your April Showers action day when everyone wore wellies and raincoats and dodged the April Showers

A lot of thought and effort went into involving the whole school in the programme and getting the Water Conservation message across to your young pupils in a way that they could understand and enjoy.  Well Done!’
