SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL WATER CONSERVATION ROADSHOW LAUNCH

Mayor of South Dublin County Mick Duff will launch South Dublin County Council’s Water Conservation Roadshow on World Water Day Monday the 22nd March 2010 in County Hall, Tallaght at 12 Noon.

The roadshow is aimed at the general public and will raise awareness about South Dublin County’s water supply and the importance of conserving it. The roadshow informs people about where their water comes from, how much water every person uses each day (148 Litres on average) and simple ways they can conserve our precious water resources. The Water Conservation Roadshow will be on display at County Hall Tallaght until Friday 26th March after which it will visit shopping centres around the County during Eco Week from 19th to 23rd April.

The domestic household population of South Dublin County consumes approximately 42 million litres of water a day. This translates to 148 litres per person per day or 407 litres per household per day. Claire Hinch, Assistant Environmental Awareness Officer with South Dublin County Council says “If every person makes an small effort to reduce the amount of water we use it will make a big difference overall.  Around the house there are lots of simple yet effective water saving tips such as - not leaving taps running in your house while carrying out normal tasks, only filling the kettle with enough water for your needs, only running dishwashers and washing machines when full, reducing time in the shower.” For more water saving tips visit www.taptips.ie.
