RUA RED, South Dublin Arts Centre wins the prestigious overall
Grand Prix Award at the Zurich LAMA Awards
Councillor Mick Duff, Mayor of South Dublin County Council accepted three awards including the prestigious Grand Prix Award on behalf of the Council for the flagship development- RUA RED, South Dublin Arts Centre at the Local Authority Members Association (LAMA) awards ceremony. The event was hosted by Miriam O’ Callaghan in the Burlington Hotel on Saturday 30th January 2010 with Deputy Michael Finneran, TD, Minister of State for the Department of Environment, Heritage & Local Government as Guest of Honour.
RUA RED is a dynamic, vibrant and accessible home for the arts and culture in South Dublin County. The awards are presented as the centre approaches its first birthday later this week. A great asset to the County, RUA RED opened last year following an investment of €10 million in cultural facilities by South Dublin County Council. Mayor Mick Duff said that “RUA RED is a great addition to Tallaght’s emerging cultural quarter hosting diverse, high quality and innovative arts programmes/events aimed at all members of the community, locally, nationally and internationally”
In addition to the Grand Prix Prize, RUA RED South Dublin Arts Centre was also declared winner in two other categories
- Best Public Building
- Best Arts Building
South Dublin County Council was also short listed in the following categories:
- · Best Public Park- Seán Walsh Park, Tallaght
- · Best Recreational Facility- Lucan Skatepark
- · Best Sporting Facility - Publicly Funded- Tallaght Stadium
- · Best Use of External Communications- South Dublin Libraries Website www.southdublinlibraries.ie
- Best Environmentally Friendly Initiative-Accessible Recycling for All, Sean Walsh Park and Social Credits promoting Recycling – Reverse vending machines
