Young people Seize RUA RED, South Dublin Arts Centre
On November 18th the Tallaght Youth Arts Forum is taking over RUA RED, South Dublin Arts Centre to host an open house “By Youth, For Youth”.
Tallaght Youth Arts Forum (TYAF) formed in June 2009. They are supported by Tallaght Community Arts and South Dublin County Council’s Arts Office. The group is for young people ages 13 and up. Their mission statement is:
We want to help young people to get involved in the arts. The idea is to let young people know more about South Dublin County 's new Arts Centre called Rua Red and to encourage them to be a part of the Tallaght Youth Arts Forum. We are a group of young people who are interested in the arts. We hope to :
-get young people more involved with the community
-organise events locally
-get our voices heard
-have Rua Red used more by young people
-bridge cultural and age gaps
-create awareness about arts activities and opportunities in our local communities
The group has developed an Open House event in RUA RED, in partnership with the new arts centre to let other young people know what the centre has to offer them. In addition, the event is an opportunity for young people to voice their opinions about involvement in creative activities and what opportunities they would like to see more of. The event is open to all young people.
The Open House is already booked out for the morning sessions, targeted at schools. Young people will receive a tour of the centre, led by the Youth Arts Forum, and participate in different activities, such as radio, film and visual arts.
The evening session, held from 6:45 pm until 9:30 is open to all young people. Tours will also be given with a creative activity and a performance by a music group from the Irish Wheelchair Association. Funded by the IWA and Vodafone, the performance is based on collaborative and orginal work involving a group of young musicians with physical disabilities working with music technology, percussion and songwriting specialist tutors from Music Together. The music technology instruments were partly funded by Pobal.
