HALLOWEEN FESTIVAL
Press Release Issued: 23rd October 2009
Bonfires are contrary to Parks Bye-laws - they are not safe, they are a blot on the landscape and they are actively discouraged by South Dublin County Council.? It is recognised that bonfires can be used as a vehicle for disposal of domestic waste ? local communities are actively encouraged to ensure each community is kept free from litter debris or material that might be used to fuel unauthorised bonfires.
Considerable resources are employed by South Dublin County Council in maintaining the high quality open space throughout the county - we would encourage local communities, parents and children alike to take pride in their own community so as to ensure the amenity value is not jeopardised.
However, in recognition of the Halloween tradition South Dublin County Council, in partnership with the local communities, local Gardai, Civil Defence, the Fire Brigade and Council staff, has? organised two official bonfire sites at Fettercairn, West Tallaght and Neilstown, North Clondalkin which will commence at 5.30pm (Fettercairn ) and 6pm (Neilstown) and finish at 8pm.? Both events promise a fun-filled evening for all members of the community with a particular focus on children?s themes.
Details of South Dublin County Council?s Family Friendly Week, Hallowfest, which runs from 25th October through to 1st November ?09 can be obtained from www.hallowfest.ie.
