New Innovative Waste Charge System for South Dublin County.
The Mayor of South Dublin County Cllr Mick Duff will launch a new advanced and innovative electronic waste charges system that will eliminate the need for bin tags for domestic refuse collection this week.
The new waste charge system will be introduced throughout the County on a phased basis from 19th October 2009 and will be available to all customers by the end of 2009. To see when the waste charge system will be introduced to your area visit New Advance Credit System – Waste Charges Card
This innovative system will make the County’s refuse service easier and more efficient for everyone to use. Customers will not have to purchase a tag anymore, instead they will purchase bin lift credit in advance of their bin collection and this will allow the refuse truck to lift bins.
Customers can purchase ‘bin lift credit’ in a number of ways;
· online at www.southdublin.ie,
· by telephone on 01- 4149000
· at Cash offices in County Hall, Tallaght and Clondalkin Civic Centre,
· at Post Offices, Payzone and PostPoint outlets around South Dublin County.
Whenever a bin is collected, an electronic chip in the bin is read by a computer on the bin truck. If there is sufficient credit on the bin account the bin is emptied and the cost of lifting the bin is then deducted from the customer’s account. If the customer has insufficient credit in their account then the bin will not be emptied.
Bin lift credit can be purchased in over 180 outlets throughout South Dublin County from the 12th October
"Once again South Dublin County Council is at the front of the pack when it comes to technology and innovation. All people have to do now with this new waste charges system is buy "bin lift credit" in advance of their collection day and they are good to go, no more worrying about stolen tags. Its quite simple just like topping up your mobile" stated the Mayor of South Dublin Mick Duff.
“This new innovative solution aims to make life easier on the customer by eliminating tags and adopting a modern, innovative technology. It is very appropriate that the Council should launch the new waste charges system during Innovation week which aims to highlight and promote innovation in all walks of life", states Philomena Poole, Director of Environment.
During the introduction of this new system there will be a crossover period up to 29th January 2010 where customers can use bin tags or the new waste charges system. From 1st February 2010 only "bin lift credit" can be used. If customers have tags left over after this date they can be exchanged for bin lift credit at Post Offices and retail outlets or at the Council offices in Tallaght and Clondalkin up to 31st March 2010 for bin lift credit at any of the involved outlets or at the Council offices in Tallaght or Clondalkin.
Customers who wish to register for up-to-date text information regarding their refuse collection can email info@sdublincoco.ie or call 01 4149000 with their name, address and mobile phone number.
In addition the winners of the "bin lift credit competition" will be announced on the 3rd November.
