10 projects in South Dublin County Council short-listed in the Chambers Ireland Awards 2009

South Dublin County Council has been short-listed for 10 projects in the following categories.

Arts and Culture

  • Rua/Red Arts Centre
  • Noise Project

CDB

  • Integrated Economic Strategy

Environmental Services

  • Social Credits- Reverse Vending Machine
  • Accessible Re- Cycling Sean Walsh Park

Customer Care

  • Self Service Digital Area- Libraries
  • Accessible Guidelines- Disability Access Officer

Social and Community

  • Sensory Garden

Sport and Recreation

  • Allotments
  • Tallaght Stadium

These awards aim to acknowledge and encourage innovation and best practice among Local Authorities

Councillor Mick Duff, Mayor of South Dublin County Council said

I am delighted and proud of the large number of projects from South Dublin County Council which were shortlisted in the Chambers Awards this year. These awards recognise the very innovative and creative work that is ongoing in the County. The people of South Dublin County benefit from an enhanced quality of life as a result of these projects, making this County a better place to live and be. I look forward to the presentation of the awards later on this year and I have no doubt we will bring home the gold".

The sixth annual Excellence in Local Government Awards in association with the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government will take place in October 2009.The Awards celebrate excellence in what is a vital area of interest to the chamber movement both locally and nationally. As representatives of the major private contributor to and users of local authority services, Chambers have a deep interest in recognising, promoting and extending standards of excellence in local government.

The Awards will be presented on Wednesday 28th October 2009, in Dublin, in the following categories:

Arts and Culture;
County/City Development Board Integrated Service Delivery;
Outstanding Customer Service;
Economic Development;
Environmental Initiative;
Energy Conservation;
Waste Management;
Partnership with Business;
Planning Service;
Social and Community Development;
Sports and Recreation; and
Technology.
