Launching the network in the Mayor’s Chambers, Mayor of Southh Dublin County Council, Cllr. Paul Gogarty gave a speech about the network whose purpose is to promote inclusion, equality and diversity, as well as providing support for LGBTQ+ staff members of South Dublin County Council.

Alongside this, the network also sends out regular newsletters to its members, hosts social events, and is working on a number of projects such as LGBTQ+ inclusive policies, and training. The committee would like to thank Cllr. Francis Timmons, Selina Bonnie, South Dublin County Council’s Disability Liaison / Access Officer, Niall Noonan, South Dublin County Council’s Communications Manager, and Paul Sharkey from the Council’s Libraries Department, in particular for their help. Mayor Gogarty also raised the Rainbow flag to mark the beginning of Pride month and the 25 year anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Ireland. To coincide with Pride month, and the network’s launch, County Library Tallaght will be hosting an exhibition, and accompanying talk, by historian Tonie Walsh of the Irish Queer Archive (IQA). Both are entitled A Liberating Party and the exhibition is on view from the 18th – 25th June, with a talk on the exhibition on Saturday 23rd June.
