South Dublin Comhairle na nOg 1916 Commemorative Time Capsule

On Saturday 28th May at 12:30 South Dublin Comhairle na nÓg will seal their 1916 – 2016 Commemorative Time Capsule in the beautiful surroundings of Corkagh Park’s Rose Garden in the heart of South Dublin County. Mayor Sarah Holland will officially install the time capsule with the aid of the members of Comhairle na nÓg.

To be opened in fifty years by the current members of the Comhairle, the time capsule represents what life is like for a young person in 2016, and reflects on the 1916 Proclamation and its resonance today. In 2066, the young people will return to Corkagh Park and retrieve the Time Capsule, to reflect on the passage of time and the evolution of the Republic since the Rising and the Commemoration.

Mayor Sarah Holland, speaking about the event said; “It is fitting that the young people in South Dublin Comhairle na nÓg have chosen to commemorate Easter 1916 by installing a time capsule to be opened by them in fifty years’ time, as it is the next generation who will progress the ideals and aspirations of the proclamation into the future.”
