An exciting new initiative by South Dublin County Council and Dublin’s energy agency Codema to help council staff to save energy was launched during Eco Week by the Mayor of South Dublin, Cllr. Sarah Holland.
The Think Energy campaign will help staff in County Hall to understand more about the energy use of the building they work in and highlight how their own behaviour can impact the energy efficiency of that building.
The campaign – which will run in partnership with the OPW - aims to achieve at least 8% in annual energy savings in County Hall, which is the equivalent to saving over €9,500 per year!
Speaking at the launch, Mayor of South Dublin, Cllr. Sarah Holland, said:
“I am delighted to be launching Think Energy in South Dublin’s County Hall. Our behaviour can have a huge impact on how much energy a building consumes and this campaign will allow staff to make small but significant changes at home as well as in the workplace.”
Eddie Conroy, County Architect, added: “Energy is a challenging yet important topic to communicate so in planning the Think Energy programme for the next 12 months, we made sure to include seasonal activities that are both relevant and engaging for staff, such as the recruitment and training of campaign ambassadors, informative lunchtime energy talks and staff field trips. We are confident that staff will not only learn how to contribute to the campaign in the workplace but also apply lessons learned to their home, saving money while increasing comfort and doing their bit to combat climate change.”
The official launch event took place in County Hall on Thursday, 21st April where Codema gave demonstrations of it’s Home Energy Saving Kit and Interactive Lighting Display. The Home Energy Saving Kit contains six practical tools to help you make sense of the energy you consume on a daily basis, while the interactive lighting display guides you around the most common bulb types on the market and explains the difference between the cost, energy efficiency and lifespan of these bulbs. Staff can also participate in an energy awareness survey with a great spot prize up for grabs for taking part.
