Official Launch of Pre-Draft consultation on the Clonburris Strategic Development Zone (SDZ) Planning Scheme and SDCC’s new Online Consultation Portal
On Monday 14th March 2016 Mayor Sarah Holland officially launched Pre-Draft public consultation for the Clonburris Strategic Development Zone (SDZ) Planning Scheme. A four week public consultation period relating to ‘big picture’ issues, is taking place between Monday 14th March and Monday 11th April 2016. The Council is inviting online submissions through a newly developed Online Consultation Portal, which will allow the general public and stakeholders to make submissions and observations on a range of future Council plans and projects, using a single online interactive platform.
As the specified development agency, South Dublin County Council intends to prepare a Draft Planning Scheme for the Clonburris Strategic Development Zone (SDZ), an area comprising approximately 280 hectares. The Planning Scheme will be the spatial planning document that sets out the detailed framework for development on the lands in the medium to long term, including the type and extent of development permissible, proposals relating to transport, services, amenities and facilities required to support the new development.
The purpose of an SDZ Planning Scheme is to ensure the delivery of residential and commercial / economic development together with supporting infrastructure and facilities in a sustainable manner on a strategic site – a sustainable community rather than solely a housing or commercial development.
Speaking at the launch of the Pre-Draft public consultation on the Clonburris SDZ, Mayor Sarah Holland stated, ‘I welcome the Government designation of lands at Clonburris as a Strategic Development Zone, these lands have significant potential for the future delivery of sustainable communities in South Dublin County. At a strategic level, the development of these lands will deliver new homes to meet the housing shortage in the Dublin Region. South Dublin County Council also wishes to raise its share of economic growth; the Clonburris SDZ can facilitate continued growth of a competitive local economy and provide employment for the County’s rising population’.
Speaking about the Council’s new Online Consultation Portal, Daniel McLoughlin, Chief Executive has stated, ‘I am delighted to announce that the Pre-Draft public consultation on the Clonburris SDZ, will be the first project to invite submissions through our new Online Consultation Portal. The new Portal allows members of the public to keep up to date and make submissions on future Council plans and projects, using a single interactive online portal as opposed to previously using a variety of stand-alone media, to engage with the Council. The new Portal represents an opportunity for all citizens, businesses, community groups and stakeholders across South Dublin County to have their say on the future growth of our County. Public Information Sessions where staff will be available to answer questions and to assist in making a submission will take place at both Lucan Public Library andClondalkin Civic Offices on Wednesday 23rd of March between 4pm and 7pm.
Pre – Draft Public Consultation on the Clonburris SDZ
South Dublin County Council is running a four week public consultation process from Monday 14th March to Monday 11th April 2016, inclusive.
South Dublin County Council is inviting any interested parties to make submissions or observations with regard to ‘big picture’ issues only, relating to the preparation of a Draft Planning Scheme for the Clonburris Strategic Development Zone.
