Launch of ESB Tree Week 2016

ESB Tree Week, organised by the Tree Council of Ireland since 1985 is a week long programme of events to celebrate trees.

The launch event in South Dublin took place in Glendoher Park, Rathfarnham on Wednesday March 9th at 11.30am to mark the start of works on a new natural playground where the experience of nature is an integral part of the play experience. The Mayor, Councillor Sarah Holland planted an Amelanchier /Snowy Mespilus tree with the school children from Ballyroan National School and residents from Glendoher Park.

Mayor Sarah Holland said “I am delighted to be here today to plant a tree with children from Ballyroan National School and residents from Glendoher. The tree planting event is being held to mark the start of works on a new natural playground where the experience of nature is an integral part of the play experience.”

South Dublin County Council have prepared a programme of tree planting events in schools and open spaces around the county. The events are designed to be fun and informative with children and community groups involved in planting the trees with Council staff.

ESB Tree Week 2016 is an invitation to the public to focus on the harmony and pleasure that trees bring to our lives and encourages people to contribute to creative projects in whatever way they can.
