Local Shop Front Grant Scheme closing date extended

South Dublin County Council are delighted to announce that Independent retail businesses in South Dublin County are being given a few extra weeks to apply for the Shop Front Grant Scheme. Operators of independently owned shops fronting public streets now have until Thursday 31st March, 2016 to submit an application under the scheme.

The scheme is designed to assist shopkeepers in improving the look of their shop front. Funding of up to 50 per cent of a project’s costs to a maximum grant of €8,500 is available, subject to the application meeting the scheme’s criteria. Grants cover simple measures like painting a shop front, replacing signage to even replacing an entire shop front.

“This funding is being provided in recognition of the fact that a building’s facade makes a big impact on our villages and towns”, said Daniel McLoughlin, Chief Executive of South Dublin County Council. “We want the public streets of our County to have a positive image and become an attractive environment for shoppers and visitors, and the 2016 Shop Front Grant Scheme is a practical measure to assist this. The scheme assists local retailers who wish to take measures to improve the public face of their business – the shop front.”

Over the past two years South Dublin County Council have awarded grants to 12 shops to help improve the look of the streetscape of villages across the county. Artisan Pantry in Lucan was selected as having the best shop front design of 2014, whilst Tallaght Traditional Barber Shop took that accolade in 2015.

Further details of the scheme, including terms and conditions, a design guide and an application form is available from the Council’s website at http://www.sdcc.ie/news/shopfront-grant-scheme-2016 e-mail econdev@sdublincoco.ie or telephone (01) 414 936.

The closing date for receipt of application has been extended to Thursday 31st March, 2016.
