Irish Open International

3,500 competitors from over 40 countries are expected to descend on South Dublin County this weekend for the Irish Open International, a mixed martial arts tournament. The event will commence in Citywest Hotel & Convention Centre, on Friday 4th March and will run through to 6th March, with a selection of events covering various styles of martial arts such as Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, Karate and Kickboxing.

The Irish Open Volunteer Committee were approved an offer of assistance from South Dublin County Council under the Community Tourism Diaspora Scheme for this year’s tournament. The scheme, run in association with Fáilte Ireland and IPB Insurance, is aimed at providing support to community based events that involve overseas visitors in order to carry through the legacy of The Gathering in 2013 and beyond. It is also aimed at fostering the growth of strong county Diaspora networks on the basis that Diaspora relationships are rooted in ‘people and place’.

Applications are still being accepted for the 2016 Community Tourism Diaspora Scheme and South Dublin County Council would encourage groups to make an application for events that meet the criteria and attract overseas visitors back to Ireland. Closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 11th March, 2016. Interested parties should visit http://www.sdcc.ie/news/community-tourism-diaspora-initiative or e-mail econdev@sdublincoco.ie to apply, or telephone (01) 414 9361 for further information.
