South Dublin County Council launches Halloween Safety and Awareness Campaign 2015
South Dublin County Council is delighted to launch its Halloween Safety and Environmental Awareness Campaign 2015, an initiative driven by the Clondalkin Area Committee.
This year, to raise awareness and encourage our citizens to stay safe, the Council has published a colourful infographic leaflet providing facts and tips on how to stay safe at Halloween. The leaflet also contains details of the various family events hosted by South Dublin County Council’s Libraries and Community Services. Members of the public can also find information on incentives offered by the Council to avoid damage to community open spaces as a result of illegal bonfires. “Bulbs Not Bonfires” is a reward available through the Council’s innovative Social Credits Scheme. This initiative provides communities with flowers in the spring in return for organising alternative Halloween activities which will not harm our environment.
For every Social Credit applicant during the month of October and to encourage recycling, South Dublin County Council will also be offering a free pass to the Ballymount Civic Amenity, one pass allows one entry for one car and will be valid until 14th November, 2015.
Speaking at the launch of the Halloween Safety Campaign at Clondalkin Civic Offices on 14th October, Mayor Sarah Holland said:
“Halloween is a night for having fun but we must also remember it can be a dangerous time too and we should be mindful of our safety. Bonfires are illegal and are an avoidable extra burden on our already busy Dublin Fire Brigade and Emergency Services, Council staff and An Garda Siochána. Bonfires are also an unnecessary expense on the Council, last year approximately €50,000 was spent on clean-up operations associated with the 350 bonfires which took place. This money could have been put to better use in our communities.”
Mayor Holland also invited the children of South Dublin County to take part in the many events taking place throughout the county over Halloween:
“South Dublin County Council Libraries have a wonderful line-up of spooky Halloween themed activities on offer for children of all ages, from arts and crafts to a very special Halloween Puppet Show. There is something for everyone to enjoy.”
South Dublin County Council encourages all our citizens to get into the ‘spirit’ and above all STAY SAFE AND ENJOY HALLOWEEN !!!!
