Irish Water National Award for South Dublin School – Thursday 7th May 2015
A massive congratulation to Tallaght Community School, Balrothery, Dublin 24, from South Dublin County who won the overall National Award for Water Conservation in the An Taisce Green Schools Programme. Minister Alan Kelly and Director of Irish Water, Dr John Tierney presented the award at the An Taisce and Irish Water awards ceremony in The Royal College of Physicians, Kildare Street, Dublin 2 on 7th May 2015.
The school received this award due to the work of the students, teachers and parents to examine different ways of water use and conservation. Their application impressed Irish Water and an Taisce so much that after winning the regional award, the school was chosen for the overall national award. The students undertook projects on water conservation and had a ‘Day of Action’ carrying water to experience the challenges of people in countries where they have to travel for clean water.
In addition to Tallaght Community School winning the national school of the year award, congratulations to Blessing Asemota from Divine Mercy Senior National School in Lucan also won the overall prize in the Green-Schools Irish Water Poster Competition. Minister Alan Kelly and Director of Irish Water, Dr John Tierney presented the award to Blessing on the day.
It took a lot of work and great commitment from the students and teachers to achieve the awards received. South Dublin County Council is committed to supporting the Green schools programme throughout its region on all themes including, Litter, Waste, Energy, Water, Travel, Biodiversity and Global Citizenship.
Once again, big congratulations to the whole school community of Tallaght Community School and to Blessing Asemota from Devine Mercy Senior National School.
