Tip Off in Tallaght – Dublin Basketball Masters Tournament, 2015.

Players, officials, coaches and spectators from across Ireland, the UK, Europe and the US descended on South Dublin County last weekend for the Dublin Masters Basketball Tournament 2015. This was the third year of the event and basketball teams from Ireland, the UK, Belgium, Spain and America tipped off in the National Basketball Arena on Saturday 9th May with Tres Son Pasos from Santander in Spain advancing from their group in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght to beat US based outfit Team BNAF 28 – 27 to win the Over 40 Men’s Plate Final at St Michael’s Hall in Inchicore. Dublin Masters Basketball Association were approved an offer of assistance from South Dublin County Council under the Community Tourism Diaspora Project for this year’s tournament. The project, run in association with Fáilte Ireland and IPB Insurance, is aimed at providing support to community based events that involve overseas visitors in order to carry through the legacy of The Gathering in 2013 and beyond. It is also aimed at fostering the growth of strong county Diaspora networks on the basis that Diaspora relationships are rooted in ‘people and place’.

While the 2015 process has closed, the Community Tourism Diaspora Project will re-open again in early 2016, and South Dublin County Council would encourage groups to start considering an application for 2016 for events that meet the criteria and attract overseas visitors back to Ireland.
