The Mayor Fintan Warfield will launch the 2015 Tree Week in St Paul’s Secondary School, Greenhills on Monday 2nd March 2015. First year students from St Paul’s will help the Mayor plant 6 apple trees – 3 cooking apple trees and 3 eating apple trees in the school grounds, to celebrate trees and the gifts that they bring.

The many educational aspects of the trees planted will be used by the students in their learning –Botany, environmental studies, cookery, art, geography, Civic, Social & Political studies.

The Mayor will also launch ‘Living with Trees’ the Council’s draft Tree Management Policy for public consultation. The policy outlines the Council’s approach on the management and development of a sustainable tree population in the County and will provide guidance to others. The public are invited to make their comments and observations on the policy, further information is available on www.sdcc.ie

Mayor Fintan Warfield said “I am looking forward to visiting St Paul’s and meeting the students. I know the school has a strong environmental aspect as they are now working on the Biodiversity Green Flag. I am delighted that the Council are arranging the planting of fruit trees especially as they can be used in many different ways and this action will hopefully encourage more people to grow fruit trees. The launch of ‘Living with Trees’ the Council’s draft Tree Management Policy is a very important step. I encourage everyone to read this document and participate in the public consultation process. ”
