On Monday, 1st December 2014 at 6.30pm, Mayor Fintan Warfield will officially launch National Accessibility Week in South Dublin County in RUA RED Arts Centre
Local Authority National Accessibility Week 2014 starts Monday, 1st December and will run until the 8th December. This Week is an important annual opportunity for local authorities to encourage everyone to focus on issues of accessibility for disabled people. Councils, businesses and community groups across the country are being asked to use the Week to highlight the accessibility of their facilities and services; and to encourage wider society to also be more inclusive of the varied access needs of disabled people. The week is an initiative of the Local Authority Access Officer Network and the LGMA National Disability Steering Committee.
South Dublin County Council will be promoting accessibility in various ways throughout the Week and we are delighted in partnership with the Institute of Technology Tallaght to start the week with ‘Laurence Clark Live’. Laurence is an internationally-acclaimed comedian, writer, actor, and disability rights campaigner.
Named Shortlist magazine’s Funniest New Comedian and runner-up at the Edinburgh Fringe’s Laughter Awards, Laurence Clark is one of the UK’s most exciting comedians to break through. Laurence is also the star of BBC1's We Won’t Drop the Baby and BBC2's Are You Having A Laugh?
“Dangerously funny… makes Chris Morris look lightweight” **** The Scotsman
“Rising comedy star… blackly funny” Daily Telegraph
'Intelligent and mischievous' **** Metro
'Tired from laughing' ***** Adelaide Advertiser
Dil Wickremasinghe from Newstalk FM’s Global Village will host the event.
Tickets for the performance are available from RUA RED Box Office at €5.00. RUA RED is wheelchair accessible and Irish Sign Language interpretation will be provided throughout the event. For further information contact: the Communications Unit at communications@sdublincoco.ie
