Mayor Fintan Warfield opened South Dublin Comhairle na nÓg on Wednesday 22nd October 2014 in Áras Chrónáin. Mayor Warfield also launched South Dublin Comhairle na nÓg Cyber Safety Charter, supported by South Dublin County Council, Joint Policing Committee and South Dublin Children Services Committee, was developed and designed by Comhairle Members during 2014. A DVD on The United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child, made by all our Dublin Comhairles was also launched and shown at the AGM.

The AGM was a great success, with workshops from Jigsaw Tallaght and Jigsaw Clondalkin and theatre style workshops on The Rights of a Child. Our Guest speaker Shane Martin Moodwatchers delivered a REFRESH YOUR LIFE SEMINAR, asking young people to look at all that is positive in their lives.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) we received extra funding to celebrate and promote the Convention on the Rights of a Child. In partnership with the other Dublin Comhairles we made a DVD on the Rights of a Child. This DVD will be shown at the AGM.

This event was organised by South Dublin Comhairle na nÓg, South Dublin County Council in partnership with Ronanstown Youth Service, Crosscare and Foroige, Tallaght. Chair Josh Norton and Comhairle members invited young people living or attending school in the South Dublin County area to attend.

‘Comhairle na nÓg’ are local youth councils, which give children and young people the opportunity to be involved in the development of local services and policies. It provides the youth of South Dublin County with an opportunity to identify and discuss matters which affect their daily lives, and is a place for young people to pass on their views and concerns to decision-makers in both local and national government
