Economic recovery, South Dublin County Council plays its part..

Following a series of recent significant commercial property deals in Dublin it appears as though the commercial property market is recovering in line with an improving economic climate. To support this trend a recent development by South Dublin County Council saw it host a Commercial Property Exhibition at Tallaght Stadium on October 2nd.

Mayor Fintan Warfield welcomed attendees “South Dublin County presents excellent opportunities for investment and business expansion.

We hope you find the Expo beneficial, make useful contacts and that South Dublin County Council can assist in your decision to Invest in South Dublin.

Chief Executive of South Dublin County Council, Daniel McLoughlin stated; "Vacancy or under-development of property can be a negative contributor to the profile of an area and have knock-on effects upon prospects for investment. The Council is keenly aware of the benefits that occupation or re-development of vacant industrial/commercial areas can bring to the image of the County and in terms of job creation. To this end we reached out to the commercial agents and retail centres in the County to provide a platform for them to showcase their properties and for the Council to showcase our County as an excellent investment location.”

The event also involved a keynote speech from Frank Ryan, Chairman of IDA Ireland. South Dublin promotes its high tech Grange Castle Business Park in partnership with the IDA and can count Pfizer, Takeda, Google, Aryzta, Grifols and Microsoft amongst its clients at the Park.

Director of Economic Development, Frank Nevin added; “To ensure the event was a success the Council worked in partnership with industry bodies such as the SCSI and IPAV as well as utilising commercial property media to reach exhibitors and attendees. The event was well attended by potential investors and interested parties and feedback has been positive. We are aware that other local authorities are considering similar events and we are ourselves considering running the event again in 2015.”

At the Expo, Peter Byrne, Chief Executive of South Dublin Chamber, presented preliminary findings of the County Economic Profile. The Economic Profile was carried out in the period April-August jointly by South Dublin County Council and the Chamber involving both online surveys and face to face visits to over 4,500 businesses. Full results of the survey will be published in a report in November. Data from the report will assist in investment decisions and economic policies supporting the future development of the County.
