Joint Press Release issued on behalf of Tallaght Hospital and South Dublin County Council Friday 8th June 2012 as to the Upcoming National Children’s Hospital Decision
The National Paediatric Hospital (NPH) Review Group has formally submitted its report to Minister for Health, Dr James Reilly. It is expected that the Minister and the Cabinet will consider the report over the forthcoming days before announcing their decision.
In making our joint submission to the NPH Review Group we primarily sought to provide the highest level of healthcare possible for Irish children. We are convinced that our Tallaght Medical Quarter proposal to create a tri-located Women and Children’s Hospital with our current teaching Adult Hospital meets all of the criteria in providing healthcare for women and children which would match the best examples in the world.
We plan to continue with the development of our proposal for a Tallaght Medical Quarter, regardless of the outcome as to the NPH as this remains an important service requirement for patients both in our local and regional areas.
The goal in this submission process was always the provision of the best health care possible to children. Ireland boasts some of the finest medical healthcare staff in the world and in the coming years we look forward to having a National Children’s Hospital that is becoming of this high level of care.
As a hospital which currently provides services to children; we are convinced that if our site is chosen as the location for the National Paediatric Hospital, that construction can commence with the minimum of delay and that we can deliver the state-of-the-art facility that it required.
In summary, our proposal offers a publically owned, fully serviced, buildable site adjacent to the existing teaching Adult Hospital while offering a range of future expansion opportunities within a planned town centre environment, where all hospital users can be fully supported.
