The South Dublin Age Friendly County Programme will be launched in Tallaght Stadium on Wednesday February 29th at 11am, by the Mayor of South Dublin County, Cllr. Caítriona Jones.
South Dublin County Council and the Ageing Well Network, in conjunction with our partners, An Garda Síochána, the HSE, South Dublin Volunteer Bureau, CPLN and Dodder Valley Partnerships and South Dublin Chamber, have come together to form the South Dublin Age Friendly Alliance. The Alliance will work together with older people living in the county, older person’s groups, service providers and NGOs to develop an Age Friendly County Strategy. This strategy will look at ways to build on the many programmes, activities and services for older people already in existence in the county. It will also look at ways to improve the quality of life for older people in South Dublin into the future.
The Age Friendly County Programme is based on the World Health Organisation Age-friendly Cities Framework and Guidelines. This framework is being used in counties across Ireland to look at quality of life issues for older persons under eight thematic headings including Transportation, Housing, Community Support and Health Services and Respect and Social Inclusion. The World Health Organisation has established a Global Network of Age-friendly cities and through the development of this strategy South Dublin County is aiming to become affiliated to this network.
The launch will be the first in a series of county wide consultation sessions and will be attended by representatives from older people’s groups, service providers and public representatives.
