Unwrapped is a multi-arts performance marking the lighting of the County Christmas Tree and the start of the holiday season, involving professional artists and community groups.

The event takes its theme from the battle between the Holly and Oak King. In many Celtic-based traditions the cycle of their clash signifies the turning of  the seasons from the Winter to the Summer Solstice. This story has inspired many of the Christmas and winter traditions we celebrate today.

The event features original music and artwork as well as the lighting of the County Christmas Tree. There will be performances from the Armagh Rhymers; Habemus Choir; St. Kilian’s Church Choir, Kingswood; St. Mark’s Church Choir, Springfield; Suburban Sounds Choir; art work from Killian Redmond; writing from Sue Hasset; original music by Gerry Horan and Michael Fleming; costumes by Tadashi Kato; lantern and doorway design by Sláinne Linnane; and living tableaux by Jennifer Webster with members of Tallaght Young Filmmakers

The event closes with a reception and refreshments along with traditional music performances in RUA RED’s foyer.

Unwrapped is a creative partnership between South Dublin County Council Arts Office and Corporate Services Department; South Dublin Libraries; Tallaght Community Arts; Alternative Entertainment; Contact Studio; Civic Theatre, Tallaght; RUA RED, South Dublin Arts Centre and South Dublin Music Education Partnership
