The Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Councillor Caitriona Jones, herself a past pupil of Firhouse Community College, was the special guest on hand on Tuesday 25th October to mark the official dedication of road safety improvement works at Killinniny Road, Firhouse. This initiative was a result of a project undertaken by pupils of Firhouse Community College.

The Mayor, who is also a current Board Member of the College, said “I am personally delighted that the Council has listened and responded to the submissions of the pupils who had undertaken the study as part of the formal project for their CSPE studies. The road safety improvement works will provide the pupils, staff and visitors with a safe route and encourage the use of human powered alternatives for the school commute”.

At the ceremony the Mayor formally present certificates to each of the pupils involved, she thanked each of the students and their teachers for the hard work they had put into the project. The involvement of Firhouse Community College with South Dublin County Council in this project was breaking new ground and this joint venture had many benefits for all participants.

In conclusion the Mayor gave a special word of thanks to the National Transport Authority, who made grant funding available to enable the project, An Garda Siochana and officials from the Council’s Roads and Transportation Department for their involvement the project.
