Water Conservation Competition Winner!

South Dublin County Council recently held an online Water Conservation Competition. Entrants were asked to estimate how much water a single person uses in one day. The correct answer is an astonishing 148 litres! Peter Murphy from Tallaght provided the correct answer and won a Water Butt. A water butt is a barrel-like tank that can collect rainwater from your roof's drainpipes when it rains. This rainwater can then be used for watering plants in your garden, washing your car or any other use.

Now more than ever South Dublin County Council is urging householders to conserve water and use it sparingly. There is an ongoing need to reduce water consumption by 10% throughout the Dublin region and South Dublin County Council urges everybody to conserve water and use it sparingly. General Water Conservation

Help to maintain water supply by conserving water

  • Do not leave taps running while carrying out daily tasks such as brushing teeth, hand washing, food preparation
  • Check the house for leaks and repair any dripping taps, cisterns, tanks or pipes.
  • If a leak is seen in a public place, report it to the Council on 01 4149000 or online at www.fixyourstreet.ie or www.customercare.ie
  • Only run dishwashers and washing machines when they are full
  • Fit a displacement device in the toilet cistern to reduce the flush volume
  • Reduce time in the shower and avoid having baths
