Scottish visitors welcomed to South Dublin County !

 

Cllr. Pamela Kearns, Deputy Mayor of South Dublin County hosted a welcoming reception in the Council offices  for a group of students and their teachers from second-level schools in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland on Thursday last, 29 September 2011.  The group were attending Ri Chéile 2011, an event held annualy to foster ties between young people from both countries and to give them an opportunity to explore similarities between their two languages. 

During their visit, the group were given a short tour of the County Hall, including the Council Chamber, Customer Care, where queries can be dealt with through the medium of Irish, the Planning Counter and the Traffic Management Unit, where they saw images from the County wide traffic cameras.  They were also brought on a tour of the County Library, where customers can avail of Irish services and self service points. 

 

Deputy Mayor, Pamela Kearns commented ‘it is great that young people are travelling and experiencing different cultures, while promoting and enjoying their own, and fostering relations between Ireland and Scotland’

 

Meaning ‘together’ in Scots Gaelic or  ‘le chéile’ in Gaeilge/Irish,  RI CHÉILE  is  organised jointly by Gael Linn and Comann na Gaidhlig and partfunded by the organisation COLMCILLE.
