Mayor Marie Corr congratulates Arts Bursary Award Winners 2011                                      

 

 

South Dublin County Council supports talented young musicians and artists of all disciplines from across the county through its annual bursary award scheme. The recipients of the Awards for 2011 have been announced. Twelve awards have been made totalling €15,500 in the categories of music, literature, performing arts, community arts and visual arts. Mayor Marie Corr met with the award winners on Tuesday 31st of May in County Hall to congratulate them on their achievements.

 

 

Individual Artist Bursary Awards, which enable career development through innovation, education, travel, and project development, have been awarded to:

 

Ruth Gibson, Music and Performing Arts (€1000): To undertake master classes in preparation for the Tokyo International Viola Competition.

Marie Gahan, Literature (€1000): to write and publish a full length memoir.

Brian Kirk, Literature (€ 1000): to support the completion of a new novel.

Fiona Gavin Delaney, Community Arts (€1500): to facilitate a new work programme with the Tower Sewing Club, Clondalkin.

Oisín Byrne, Visual Arts (€2000): to complete and present a number of interior drawings of heritage houses.

Barbara Knezevic, Visual Arts (€2000): to develop new sculptural and installation works.
Kenneth Lambert, Visual Arts (€1000): to support a working residency in Madrid with La Tabacalera.

Séamus Moran, Performing Arts (€1000): to research and draft a one man play based on the inheritance theory of transplants.

The Annette Halpin Memorial Award for Young Musicians which is now in its second year has been made possible by the efforts of the Halpin Family working together with South Dublin County Council. The award is made to young musicians/composers/singers, in the county to support their musical development which might include master classes, purchase of instruments, recording, or travel. Two awards have been made

 

The Stoney Brokes (€1000):  Award to complete the bands debut EP.

Lauren Reinhardt (€1000): to upgrade an instrument to an intermediate model.

 

 

The Project Award aims to support amateur, voluntary or community bodies involved in organising a project that would:

 

  • stimulate public interest in the arts
  • promote the knowledge, appreciation and practice of the arts
  • or assist in improving the standards of the arts across the County.

 

The 2011 Project Award winners are:

National Centre for Arts & Health, Tallaght Hospital (€1000): to support the ‘Artist on Call’ project in collaboration with artist Ms. Jessica Conway.

Clondalkin Youth Band, (€2000): to enable summer project and workshops with a leading USA Professor of Music.
