Seachtain na Gaeilge 2011 – South Dublin County
South Dublin County Council will soon be hosting the 2011 Seacthain na Gaeilge. The two week celebration has a great line up of entertainment with big names adding their support to the occasion.
Growing from strength to strength each year the events have attracted big numbers of Irish speakers and non Irish speakers alike.
More than 90 events run from the 3rd to 17th of March and are spread out over Tallaght, Clondalkin, Lucan, Castletymon and Ballyroan, with many of the events taking place in libraries throughout the county.
Acts like John Spillane, Rónán Ó’Snodaigh (Kila), Liam Ó’Maonlai (Hothouse Flowers) will bring the traditional Irish ‘craic agus ceol’ to the celebration.
Whether you are an Irish speaker, a supporter, or simply want to take advantage of free entertainment there is plenty to choose from. Whether you fancy some céilí dancing, traditional Irish music sessions, sean nós singing or simply want to take the opportunity to brush up with conversation classes, its all here!
The South Dublin Libraries website http://www.southdublinlibraries.ie/ga/baile has been short-listed for the Irish Language category in Ireland’s e-Government Awards. They are the first Local Authority Website to have a complete Irish version of all static content and relevant news items.
Seachtain na Gaeilge aims to promote Irish to everyone, there is already a huge amount of support for the language and we encourage everyone to come along and join in the fun. Bí linn agus bain usáid as an cupla focal!
