Bulbs not Bonfires in Lucan

The second year classes from St Thomas’s National School in Lucan and Kidstart Preschool children came out to help residents in Finnstown Abbey, Lucan, plant daffodil bulbs on Tuesday 1st February. This was a reward for the resident’s efforts and success in preventing bonfires on the open space in Finnstown Abbey estate.

South Dublin County Council’s Parks staff prepared the ground for planting and everyone got involved to plant the 2,000 bulbs in the green space.

Bad weather prevented the planting of bulbs earlier – “It’s late to plant daffodil bulbs but this should not prevent them appearing, it will delay flowering this year. It was great to see all the pupils from St Thomas’s and the Kidstart Preschool out planting – they will make great gardeners” said John Lyons, South Dublin County Council’s District Parks Supervisor.

Liona O Toole, Chairperson of the Finnstown Abbey Residents Association “We are delighted with the success of this initiative and particularly in getting the children involved. We hope that they will come back to see the fruits of their labours. Thank you to them all and to South Dublin County Council for this positive initiative. This is a real success for this community. We hope to continue this positive effect into the future”
