Ongoing Response to Current Prolonged Adverse Weather Conditions

 12.00 p.m. 1st December 2010

Met Eireann has advised that the forecast for immediate short term is for sub zero temperatures and further snowfalls.

In response to the above South Dublin County Council can confirm that it will be receiving delivery of further supplies of gritting materials.

All eight gritting crews will again be deployed at 7.00 p.m. on the programmed 343Km of roads in the county that constitute our scheduled routes. Tomorrow morning at 5.00 a.m. a further full gritting run will be undertaken. Spot gritting is continuing to take place during the day and these locations are determined by the Area Engineer working in consultation with the local Inspector.

Road conditions throughout the County are extremely hazardous and require all drivers to exercise particular care, notwithstanding the extensive gritting programme which is under way. The ongoing advice regarding the taking of non-essential journeys remains in place, where it is necessary to undertake journeys drivers should check the weather forecasts prior to departure.

With regard to the footpaths, all available outdoor staff have been mobilised and works are being concentrated in the vicinity of Hospitals, Schools, Churches and Community buildings.
