The Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Councillor Eamonn Maloney officially re-opened the newly renovated and modernised Ballyroan Community and Youth Centre on Saturday the 9th of October
The re-opening sees the culmination of several years of hard work and negotiations between South Dublin County Council, the local Parish, the Diocesan Offices and the local community in which the old Community Centre owned by the Parish is transferred into South Dublin County Council ownership in exchange for the extensive renovation and modernisation of the Community Centre and the construction of a brand new Parish Pastoral Centre.
Construction works commenced back in July 2009 and the new Community and Youth Centre was handed over to the local community in March 2010, when user groups started utilising the centre again.
The renovation and modernisation works, costing an investment from South Dublin County Council of approximately €1.5 million, see the centre gaining a fully renovated large multi-purpose hall, modernised and additional meeting rooms, a state of the art commercial kitchen and an enclosed secure play area for the montessori groups. An additional spacious open plan area at the front of the building is hoped will be used to provide a local community coffee dock and an area for youth activity provisions.
South Dublin County Council has also provided direct funding assistance to the centre to help with the fit out and purchase of equipment for the centre’s activities together with a grant to assist with the employment of the Community and Youth Centre’s new full-time Manager.
