To celebrate the evolving history and heritage of South Dublin county, South Dublin Libraries is delighted to present History and Heritage 2010, an interesting, stimulating and evocative range of events. There is something for everyone. Check out the brochure and come along!

The County Library in Tallaght presents: Sweet Memories: The Story of Urney Chocolates, an exhibition by Karen Nolan. The Exhibition and Karen's book of the same name will be launched by Mayor Eamonn Maloney on Thursday 26th August at 7:00 p.m. On Thursday 16th September at 7.30pm, Ann and Redmond Shouldice will give a talk The Urney Story, Tallaght Airfield and Chocolate a talk by Ann Shouldice and Redmond Shouldice in association with Tallaght Historical Society.

For children aged 7 to 11, Castletymon, County and Lucan Libraries present Irish History Live - Take a journey through the myriad of Irish history. Wear the armour, wield the sword, understand the time, enjoy the experience! Heritage Week Arts and Crafts sessions for children aged 8 to 12 will be held at Clondalkin, Lucan and Castletymon Libraries. In Clondalkin and Ballyroan Libraries, 8-12 year olds can also come along and meet a Viking!

In Clondalkin Library, on Tuesday 31st August at 7:00 p.m.  Mayor Eamonn Maloney will launch a new book  The Monastery of Mount St. Joseph, Clondalkin written by local historian, Joe Williams . The book is published by South Dublin Libraries. Joe Williams will also lead a guided walk of Clondalkin’s monastic sites on Wednesday 25th August at 7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday 28th August at 2:30 p.m.

Ballyroan, Castletymon, Clondalkin, County, and Lucan Libraries present Your Story, Your Place: Local tales & folklore with storyteller Brendan Nolan. At his session at the County Library, Brendan will be relaying some of the stories of Malachi Horan. Audience members are encouraged to tell their own stories too!

Interested in Family History? Then why not consider Trace your Family Roots: Join genealogist Paul Gorry to learn about sources in Irish genealogy and how best to use them. Paul will be holding a session in Ballyroan Library and in the County Library.
