South Dublin County Council Community Workers, are working with artist Fiona Hallinhan http://www.notalittlepony.com. , the Council’s Parks Department and Palmerstown Active Retirement Association Walk & Talk Group at Waterstown Park on a new innovative arts project.    Hallinan will realise an audio mapping project based on oral histories of the area and experiences of the park.   Research and Development for this project has been funded by CREATE’s Artist-in-the-Community award and is mentored by composer and designer Alex Synge.  The project is one of five nation-wide applications to receive Arts Council funding approval under the Grant’s first phase; Research and Development Award. http://newsletter.artscouncil.ie/vutcmdzzzqtxgur53w5bkw

Heterodyne is the working title for a project.  It is a term used to describe bat detectors, which tune into different frequencies of sound to hear bats as they gather on waterways, such as mill races like Waterstown Park.  The term makes an interesting analogy for the way different age groups and demographics experience a place - whether they are teenagers looking for a place to go, motorists driving over the town on the motorway or pedestrians in the park.  The Heterodyne blog website, http://heterodyneproject.tumblr.com/  ,  will be used by  Hallinhan  to document the project, making regular postings, capturing research, notes, and  ideas as the project develops.   The purpose of the ‘blog’ is to create an open process forum, where ideas are played out in a malleable way.
