Eco Week Launch and Environmental Schools Anti-litter Poster Competition Winners 2010
Mayor of South Dublin County, Cllr Mick Duff, launched Eco–week and presented certificates to the winning students of South Dublin County’s Environmental Schools Anti-litter Competition on Monday 19th April in the Big Picture Interactive Exhibition centre, Tallaght.
Mayor Cllr Mick Duff said “Every year during Eco-week people have a great opportunity to learn something new about their environment and this year was no exception. I am delighted to see so many people attending the events in an effort to become more sustainable in their every day lives”.
Along side the Eco-Week launch the Environmental Schools Anti-litter Competition winners were announced. There were over 1000 entries in the competition this year. Anti-Litter posters and slogans were designed and submitted from all round the County by pupils of all ages, from young children in Junior Infants up to teenagers in Secondary Schools. Winning Anti-litter posters have been printed and distributed to all Schools, Community Centres and libraries in the County
The winning posters were as follows:
Junior National School Category – Jamie O’Flaherty from Ballyroan Boys National School, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14
Senior National School Category– Keelin Doyle from Holy Family National School, Rathcoole, Co Dublin
Secondary School Category – by a group of Students from St. Josephs Special School, Balrothery, Tallaght, - Paul Young, Dylan Dempsey, Daire Harte, Darragh Jenkins, Shane Malone, Leon Duggan, Dylan Conway.
Highlights of the week include the recently launched Water Conservation Roadshow which will visit Shopping Centre’s around the County, the WEEE to Work collection day and Birds and their Environment with Eric Dempsey. This year South Dublin County Council’s Environmental Awareness Officer will also make presentations at South Dublin Chamber Business to Business Meetings throughout the week highlighting what is available to businesses in an environmental capacity.
