Event: Garbo Green Dream Anti Litter Art Competition Prize Ceremony

Date: Friday 12th March 2010 at 11am

Venue: The Big Picture, Unit 5, Talbot House, Tallaght, Dublin 24

Deputy Mayor of South Dublin County Councillor Marie Corr will present winning pupils with prizes for their entries in the Garbo Green Dream Anti Litter Art Competition on Friday 12th March 2010 at 11am in The Big Picture, Unit 5, Talbot House, Tallaght, Dublin 24.

Garbo Productions was funded by South Dublin County Council and the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government under the Anti Litter and Anti Graffiti Grant to deliver the Garbo Green Dream Drama Workshop to junior cycle National School pupils. The workshop and competition used drama games and exercises as a vehicle to explore the theme of litter in our environment. The children then created Anti Litter Posters and entered the Garbo Green Dream Anti Litter Competition.

During January and February fourteen schools and over 1200 pupils took part in the workshops that consisted of warm up games and drama role play focussing on the theme of litter in our parks. The children imagined being creatures in their local park and later discussed how the creatures feel if litter is left in the park. Teachers were also provided with a work pack containing follow on exercises that tied into the anti-litter theme of the workshops. Each child created an anti litter poster and entered the competition. The three winning entries will be on display at the prize giving ceremony.

Claire Hinch, South Dublin County Council?s Assistant Environmental Awareness Officer said ?We were delighted with the response from schools and pupils in the County to the workshop and competition which has portrayed a serious anti litter message to very young children in an enjoyable and interesting way?.
