Young People from Tallaght and Artist Aileen Lambert Collaborate on Integrated Arts Project

Young people from Tallaght have been working with artist Aileen Lambert on a project entitled ‘CLICK-CLICK’, which challenges stereotypes about young people with and without disabilities, celebrating individuality and uniqueness through an integrated project. Their collaborative work, a new film and web-based project, will be showcased at an event launched by Mayor Mick Duff on January 30th, 2010 at 4:30pm in RUA RED, South Dublin Arts Centre.

‘CLICK-CLICK’ is an integrated arts project undertaken by young people from the Irish Wheelchair Association Youth Service and the Tallaghtfornia Foróige Club (supported by Tallaght Youth Service), in collaboration with artist Aileen Lambert. Meeting regularly on Saturdays in St. Kevin’s Family Resource Centre, Kilnamanagh from October 2009 – January 2010, the twelve participants developed skills in video, camera and stop-motion animation for this film and web-based project. The resulting work will be featured on the website www.click-click.ie.

Grainne Begley, Coordinator at St. Kevin’s Family Resource Centre has said: “CLICK CLICK is an inspirational youth arts project, where young people forge friendships and learn new creative skills while under the surface, notions of disabilities are being explored, challenged and dismantled”.

‘CLICK-CLICK’ is part of a long term project. Young members of the Irish Wheelchair Association’s Youth Service and the Tallaghtfornia Club  who both meet in St. Kevin’s Family Resource Centre, initially came together in February 2009 to select artists with whom they wanted to work on an integrated arts project.

Forming one integrated youth arts group, the young people first collaborated with Tara Brandel and Rhona Coughlan of CROI GLAN Integrated Dance Company, choreographing an integrated dance entitled ‘Do Look Now’ that was performed at the Civic Theatre in Tallaght during the summer of 2009. A documentary of this performance is available at: http://www.noisesouthdublin.com/2009/10/06/do-look-now/

‘CLICK-CLICK’ is funded and supported by the Arts Council’s Artist in the Community Scheme managed by CREATE, and by the Department of Social and Family Affairs, South Dublin County Council’s Arts Office, St. Kevin’s Family Resource Centre, the Irish Wheelchair Association, Foróige and Tallaght Youth Service.

Artist Aileen Lambert is a Wexford-based artist whose work spans video, sound and performance work as well as public art and participatory projects. She presents work nationally and internationally, and has recently presented solo shows in Sirius Arts Centre (Cobh), Wexford Arts Centre, Droichead Arts Centre (Drogheda) and the Linenhall (Castlebar). The Soft Edge, a public art project commissioned by Wexford County Council was launched in January ’08, and Aileen is currently working on public art commissions for Fingal County Council and Mayo County Council.
