PRESS RELEASE ISSUED: 2ND DECEMBER 2009

Mayor Mick Duff will officially open ?County Contours? Art Exhibition in Rua Red South Dublin Arts Centre on 7th December 2009 at 12.15 pm.

The work was done over four one hour sessions during Social Inclusion Week 2009 and involved people from Cheeverstown House and Menni Services (St John of Gods) under the facilitation of local visual artist Annette Woolley. The aim of the classes was for each participant to create their own section which when was joined jigsaw style created the art piece.

The piece is an abstract representation of the natural and manmade landscape of South County Dublin created through the medium of mosaic. Each of the twelve individual art works are simplified symbolic embodiments of sections of the local environment, which when viewed as one complete piece come together to show an overall panorama.

Mosaic itself is a medley, a mixture of different things that when brought together collectively creates something new and innovative. The collaborative nature of the workshops which saw people with a variety of disabilities, their carers? and the artist working as a team is a testament to how joining together can give rise to something wonderful not only aesthetically but socially.?
