“South Dublin Dragons”

South Dublin Dragons organised by South Dublin County Council and Comhairle na nÓg will take place on Thursday 15th October 10:30am to 12:30pm in South Dublin County Council Chambers – this event was organised as part of Innovation Week 14thto 20th October 2009. This event gives young people living in South Dublin area a chance to pitch an idea to ’Dragons’. Ideas need to be; new, realistic, financially viable, creative and innovative. The four Dragons are South Dublin County Mayor Mick Duff, County Manager, South Dublin County Council, Joe Horan, Nicola Mountford, Manager, Synergy Centre, ITT Dublin and Máiread NicGabhann, past member of Comhairle na nÓg.

Brave young entrepreneurs from School or Youth Organisations based in the County are invited to come up with possible ways to improve life for young people living in South Dublin County. Ideas in the area of Environment, Education, Science, Young Persons Facilities, or any other areas that may be of interest to them and will make South Dublin County a better place for young people, will be pitched at this event….. Each group, made up of a maximum of four people, will be given up to ten minutes to pitch their idea to the Dragons. The team or individual with the most creative or innovative idea, will win a prize for their school or organisation as well as a prize for themselves. The real prize is the opportunity for that group or individual to share their idea with South Dublin County Council and for the chance to make their idea a reality.

The Year of Creativity and Innovation challenges all of us to think outside the box, to be innovative in every area of our lives and to take risks. Across Europe this year synergies are happening in schools, universities, workplaces and homes and brilliant ideas are being allowed to blossom into reality. South Dublin Dragons offers young citizens a chance to channel their creativity into real outcomes.

The event was organised by South Dublin County Council through Comhairle na nÓg. Comhairli na nÓg are local youth councils, which give children and young people the opportunity to be involved in the development of local services and policies. It provides the youth of South Dublin County with an opportunity to identify and discuss matters which affect their daily lives, and is a place for young people to pass on their views and concerns to decision-makers at both local and national government.
