Great Interest in Switch Off Day in South Dublin County Council!

There was great interest in the Switch Off day which took place last Wednesday, 9th September 2009, to officially launch the Switch Off Campaign in South Dublin County Council.

The County Manager, Joe Horan and Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Councillor Mick Duff, were just some of the many visitors to the Codema stand in County Hall. As well as receiving an energy-awareness leaflet and mouse mat, staff members were able to enter a competition to win a low-energy LCD from the Philips 5000 series. The Philips 5000 series has energy-saving features and has been awarded the Eco Flower symbol. Employees were also invited to submit their own energy-saving suggestion and the best suggestion will win a voucher from DID Electrical.

The Switch Off Campaign encourages staff to switch off lights and appliances such as computers, photocopiers and printers when not in use. By taking part, employees can help to protect the environment while preventing thousands of euro being needlessly wasted on their department's annual energy bill.

An energy audit was carried out in County Hall in August to measure the number of lights and appliances left on in the evening and it is hoped that the Switch Off Campaign will help to significantly reduce the Council's energy consumption.

Along with the promotional day, posters have been placed in all South Dublin County Council buildings, along with Switch Off stickers for all office light switches.

The winner of the Switch Off competition will be announced after the closing date, which is Wednesday, 16th September. Good luck to all entrants!
