Tallaght Stadium Shamrock Rovers v Real Madrid
Months of pitch maintenance and ground preparation all came to a head last Monday, on the 20th of July when the game kicked off at 8pm. Over 10,000 people filed into the Stadium and over 10,000 happy spectators left feeling they had been a part of something special.
The match itself kept the crowd enthralled with the likes of Ronaldo, Raul, Heinze and Benzema showing off their skills in the heart of Tallaght. Real Madrid more familiar with Champions League than League of Ireland soccer found tough opposition in Shamrock Rovers. It took them 87 minutes to breech the Rovers defence when new signing Benzema managed to score the games only goal.
A prominent Irish soccer correspondent described Tallaght Stadium during the visit of Real Madrid as follow Blue shadows had begun to fall on the foothills of the Dublin Mountains. Night clouds were already rolling in. The floodlights were blazing. The pitch at Tallaght Stadium looked divine, like a manicured lawn in heaven itself
The atmosphere around the ground was electric and the sense of community spirit was there for all to see. Tallaght as a whole did itself proud on the night.
