PRESS RELEASE ISSUED 22TH JULY 2009
New bus to link Dublin Mountains with the city
Wednesday 22nd July, 2009, Dublin: The Dublin Mountains Partnership (DMP) is delighted to announce the arrival of the Dublin Mountaineer rambler bus, a new service, linking the city with the Dublin Mountains and forest recreation areas. The service was officially launched today by Minister Tony Killeen TD, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Food (with special responsibility for Fisheries and Forestry).
The service will run five times a day on weekends and bank holidays from the 25th July until the end of September, bringing walkers and ramblers to the heart of the mountains.
Speaking as he boarded the Dublin Mountaineer to formally launch the service, Minister Killeen said:
Forests provide excellent recreation resources across the country. In particular the Dublin Mountains Partnership shows what can be achieved when all the stakeholders get together, with a particular focus on recreation, to maximise the benefits to all.
This new bus route will provide an effective way for people to get out and enjoy the great resource which is at the doorstep of the capital city and I am delighted to formally launch this service.
Also speaking at the launch of this exciting new bus service, Karen Woods of the Dublin Mountains Partnership said:
This service will provide walkers, recreation users and visitors to Dublin an alternative to the private car for accessing the wonderful resource of the Dublin Mountains.
Jump aboard the Dublin Mountaineer! The route will start at the Sandyford Luas, servicing the Enniskerry Road, Ballyedmonduff, Glencullen, the Wicklow Way, Tibradden, Cruagh/Killakee, Hell Fire and Marlay Park. A daily hop on, hop off pass will cost 5, with a family rambler ticket (2 adults, 2 children) costing 12, and will be available on the bus. The service will be operated by Tony Doyle Coaches Ltd. of Enniskerry.
