PUBLIC ARENA
GIANT BALL EVENT AND PHOTOSHOOT
Tallaght Stadium, Whitestown Way Tallaght , Dublin 24
27 June, 2009
1 pm - 4 pm
On the 27th June 2009 drivers on the N81 will notice a rather different type of ball moving around Tallaght Stadium. Over eight meters in diameter, this giant ball is part of a public art project by Dutch artists Bik van der Pol commissioned by South Dublin County Council.
Having first noticed the half finished Stadium in 2007, the artists began to explore its background and quickly realised there was more to the derelict shell on Whitestown Way then met the eye.
Controversy surrounded the potential uses of the Stadium and Jos van der Pol and Liesbeth Bik spent nearly two years documenting the conflict that occurred and the effects it had on the surrounding community. Their work culminates in the Public Arena project:
Giant Ball: The installation of a giant ball at Tallaght Stadium. 27th June 2009
Video: A 30 minute film about the history of the Stadium, made in collaboration with the
students of Tallaght Community School. Titled Public Arena the production will be screened on 27th of June in the Stadium.
The event is open to the Public and anyone curious to see inside Tallaght Stadium is more than welcome to attend.
